Dr. and Colonel SAF Jaime Sánchez Mayorga, after spending four years as Technical Squadron Leader and Deputy Head of CESAEROB (Centre for Earth Observation Systems MOD), joined the National Armaments Directorate in 2009, as Head of the Space Unit. Until 2020, he was responsible for developing and managing space programmes, including mainly satellite communications and Earth observation systems. He has been programme manager at Pleiades, PAZ and Spainsat and as driver of new SST capabilities. He is currently CSO programme representative in Paris and Spanish MOD Spainsat NG programme manager. He represents the Spanish Ministry of Defence in different European initiatives (at EDA or European Commission level) and chairs the GOVSATCOM initiative on the EDA pooling and sharing demonstration project. He is also involved in numerous bilateral agreements with other allied countries. Despite his posting in Paris, he advises the Head of Satellite Systems and Cyber Defence in the DGAM's Sub-Directorate for Programmes. He also advises the Directorate-General for Defence Policy on Space Security and Defence Strategy, as well as on other space policy issues at different levels, both national and international. He began his career in 1981 as a soldier in the Armed Forces, entering the General Air Academy in 1983 and leaving as a Lieutenant in 1988. After three years in the Security and Defence Space Service in the Canary Islands, his first technical position was as Director of the FAS Microwave Network Supervision Network, continuing with the Joint Military Telecommunications System, until his assignment to CESAEROB. Colonel Mayorga studied at the Air Force Academy in Murcia, graduated in Telecommunications with two Masters Degrees in CIS Management and Strategy, and Defence Networks and Systems, and now holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Zaragoza on Space PPP models. He was born in 1963 and space studies are his main hobby, apart from skiing, swimming and biking.
